So I'm over reacting but I actually haven't seen the movie yet. As usual, my sister is lambasting me for it, the same way she has lambasted me for months for not watching her favorite movie, Gangster High. A slap here and there, and some "you're missing half of your life" ditty. As if I didn't know that already. One only needs fanatic friends and family and the internet to learn about Takipsilim, yes, that's the pinoy name Twilight will assume from now on. Hey, what will they name the sequel series, Bagong Buwan? I wonder why we're running out of great, original ideas. I've witnessed some of the country's best storytellers, but our major tv stations are airing Korea/Chinovelas and doing remakes here and there, almost mimicking everything we're not. Why is that??? Our country is a sort of "capital" of paranormal activities, and our culture is replete with stories and sketches of ghosts, aswangs, and the like. So why not make a different supernatural story, a love story all the same but an original tale straight out of the ancestral cabinets in Antique or Capiz? Maalaala Mo Kaya style. We're not from the Visayas, but my grandmother often tell stories about a kapre wanting to take her as his wife when she and her son were living in Batangas. This was when she was a young mother, and she was not yet pregnant with my mom. She was terrified, of course, and her father-in-law slash manggagamot recited incantations to repel the giant away. Start with that base story, blow it out of proportions, and you may get Rosario, a tale of love, deceit, and warlock father-in-laws fighting renegade elements in the Marlboro business. Place them in the cosmopolitan city as you like. If you want to cater to the younger set, cross the paranormal love story with Gossip Girl and then sprinkle it with cheesy lines delivered in a macho way. I love love stories with gorgeous bitches and love triangles and wolves. Wow, do I hear Lobo? You really want Rayver and Shaina doing a supernatural number eh? Hmmmm... Shaina would look great as a manananggal, and Rayver as a... rich bastard. I'm not kidding. Making him a bastard son of a rich family falling in love with another rich girl albeit of mananaggal blood can create lots of conflict, I mean, pinoys can create conflicts out of anything, right? Shaina is immortal like the HIghlander and doesn't eat people but rats, like Louis de Pointe du Lac. Rayver is goody-two-shoes Dan, and we throw in a Jacob Black character with the personality of Chuck Bass (Jake Cuenca?). Let's do a crossover and get Angel Locsin working again as Lyka, Rayver's sister who is actually a--- werewolf. Surprise! Rayver's family's mutant, too, and he's the only normal person here, and he holds the... The Cube. Okay, so I need to see Twilight first before I make anymore suggestions, because for all I know, I may be doing snippets or telling the exact same story altogether. Let's deviate a bit from the genre... Why not make it a comedy?! Takipsilim Feat. Ai Ai delas Alas and Janno Gibbs |
